David A. Leighty, 60, of Greensburg, died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2016, in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital. Born April 25, 1956, in Greensburg, he was the son of the late William and Eleanor Jeanne (Miller) Leighty. David served his country for twelve years as a submariner in the US Navy and was most recently a self-employed validation engineer in the medical devices industry. He belonged to the American Legion Post 981 and was a member of the Lake Arthur Sailing Club. David is survived by his sons David (Susan) and Nathan Leighty; grandchildren Devin and Nikki Leighty all of Florida; sister Deborah Leighty of Latrobe; brother Nathan Leighty of Florida; his fiancé Donna Hamilton of Greensburg; stepchildren Andrea (Warren) Grubb and Amy (David) Martin; three step grandchildren and two nephews, Andrew and Billy Leighty. A happy guy, David loved life, music, children and sailing and was often the merrymaker of any party. Friends will be received Sat., Jan. 7, at 10:00 AM in the Mason-Gelder Funeral Home, Inc., 201 N. First Street, Jeannette. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 with the Rev. Valerie Schubert officiating. Interment will be in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies at a later date.
