Rev. Dr. LCDR Robert A. Fuehrer

Rev. Dr. Robert Allan Fuehrer, D.Min, CHC, USN retired as a LCDR of Jeannette, PA met our heavenly father on Monday, November 13,2017 at the age of 60, following a massive heart attack. He was born May 30, 1957 in McKeesport, a son of the late William A. and Gladys J. (Bratton) Fuehrer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a nephew.  Bob was raised in Saxonburg, PA where as a boy he delivered papers, loved cutting grass for neighbors and was a volunteer fireman and the youngest first-responder on the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Department. In youth, he earned the honor of Eagle Scout which inspired him to a career with the US Air force where he flew helicopters as an airborne corpsman. After his first military service, Bob worked as a chemist at general motors while completing his undergraduate degree in Psychology at Westminster in '81. He then went on to obtain a Master's Degree in Theology at the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and was ordained in 1985. His educated continued with a Doctorate in Ministry in '95 where he completed CPE units focused on PTSD. God then directed him to join the US Navy as a military chaplain. LCDR Fuehrer chaplained the USS Theodore Roosevelt as part of the first battle unit to Afghanistan following 9/11. He ministered to hundreds of US Marines and sailors during the War on Terror and departed the Navy in 2011. Pastor Bob then followed a calling to Pastor four churches until returning back home to Western PA where he served as Pastor/ Moderator of the First Presbyterian Church of Jeannette. He was a very active member of the F&AM Lodge #750 and the Shriners. Bob is survived by his wife, Janet Hopkins- Fuehrer of Jeannette, Pa, formerly of Bartlett, IL as well as his four children: Amber Wenzel (Michael) of Raleigh, NC; Emily Fuerher (Jason Davis) of Fort Atkinson, Wi; Benjamin Fuehrer (Cassondra) of Cedar Rapids, IA; and Aaron Fuehrer (Sharri Flores) of Whitewater, WI along with his 7 grandchildren. Five step-sons: Anthony (Jessica) Hopkins, Andrew (Vel) Hopkins, Adam (Steph) Hopkins, Aaron (Amanda) Hopkins, Austin (Heide) Hopkins and 9 step grandchildren. Bob is also survived by his brother William R. Fuehrer (Denise), twin sister Roberta Pflugh (Alan), sister Rhonda Lesseski (Jim), and brother Ron Fuehrer.  Visitation will be held on Friday November 17th from 6-8PM in the First Presbyterian Church 314 Bullitt Ave Jeannette. F&AM Lodge #750 will hold services at 7:30pm. Visitation will also be held on Saturday from 1:30PM until the time of service at 3PM in the church. The US Navy will accord military honors following the service. In lieu of flowers the family wishes donations be made to the church. Mason-Gelder Funeral Home, Inc.
