October 21, 1926 ~ January 7, 2018 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Richard  Curry 91 of Jeannette died Sunday January 7, 2018 in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital.  He was born October 21, 1926 in Jeannette a son of the late Charles W. and Hilda (Weber) Curry.  After serving with the US Army during WWII he was honorably discharged in November 1946 and soon after that he and his partner Richard Allwine opened and operated Allwine & Curry Service in Greensburg.  On June 21, 1953 Dick and his race team made NASCAR history at Langhorne Speedway.  For the first time ever NASCAR allowed foreign cars to enter the race.  Dick's 1953 Jaguar finished first out of all the foreign entries.  He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and American Legion Post 344 all of Jeannette.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Lydia (Rees) Curry, a brother John Curry and a sister Jean Dorsner.  He is survived by two daughters Lori Monstrola and her husband William of Jeannette and Cindy Panigal of Jeannette and Vero Beach, FL, four grandchildren Shawn Stuchell, Nicole Barnhart and her husband Bradley, Michelle Monstrola and Matthew Panigal and his wife Brittany, five great grandchildren Kyleigh, Nick, Anthony, Cameron and Elliana and one due in May, numerous nieces and nephews and his best buddy Maggie.  Friends will be received Wednesday in the Mason-Gelder Funeral Home Inc. 201 N. First St. Jeannette from 9 AM till time of service at 11:00 AM with Pastor Robert James Guy Jr.  Interment will be in Twin Valley Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the donor's favorite charity.  To send online condolences visit www.mason-gelder.com.
