Hellen E. Hizer, 99, of Jeannette passed away Friday January 4,2019 at Redstone Highlands, Greensburg. She was born September 1, 1919 in Alverton, a daughter of the late John and Jeanette (Gibboney) Christner. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Harold W. "Ike" Hizer. Also preceded in death by a granddaughter Alicia Hellen Hizer, great granddaughter Jessica McEwen, and her 8 siblings. Hellen was an avid reader, enjoyed baking, and crafts. She worked as a cook and kitchen manager at the Elliott Co. in Jeannette. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Jeannette. She was a founding member of the Grandview Ladies Auxiliary where she was very involved with cooking and planning events well into her 80's. She loved Monday night bingo there for years though her losing streaks were legendary.
Hellen is survived by her four sons: Denny (Rae) of Surgarland, Tx, Garry (Linda) of Greensburg, Kurt of Jeannette and Kim (Cathy) of North Irwin; 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Monday January 7th from 4-8PM in the Mason-Gelder Funeral Home, Inc. 201 N. First St. Jeannette. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday at 11am with Pastor Bill King. Interment will follow at Jeannette Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorials be made to Grandview Firehall or the First Presbyterian Church in Jeannette. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Redstone Highlands who showed exceptional compassion and care for Hellen during her stay.
