John “Jake” Hempfield, 67 of Greensburg passed surrounded by his loved ones June 12, 2017 at Excela Health of Westmoreland. Born November 25, 1949 to Dorothy Hempfield and the late John “Buddy” Hempfield in Pittsburgh, PA. With his love of family, sports, westerns, positivity, personality, he will be deeply missed by many.  John is proceeded in death by his father John Hempfield, sister Frances (Hempfield) Evans and Betty (Hempfield) Eason. He is survived by his mother Dorothy Hempfield of N. Braddock, his loving wife Sandra Hempfield, his daughter Satara Hempfield, of Greensburg, son Duane (Stacey)(grandsons; Noah and Ian) Hempfield, granddaughter Tiera Hempfield (great grandchildren Alyssa Hempfield, London & Brooklyn Best), and grandson Duane Hempfield Jr. His brothers Clarence (Tanya) Hempfield, Jerry (Melanie) Hempfield, Thomas Hempfield, Vaughn (Theresa) Hempfield, sisters Carrie Washington & Margret Tucker. His in-laws Veronica (Andre) Woody, Barbara (Jerry) Sanders, Danny (Janice) Hainesworth, Debbie Hainesworth, Greg Hainesworth, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jake was previously employed by Irvin Works US Steel, Enterprise Products an most recently an Equipment Coach for Seton Hill University, an officer of the NAACP, he also coached various sports for organizations such as, PA HOOP STARS, Maxwell Rec, Hempfield Rec, Greensburg Salem Middle School Girls Basketball, Greensburg Central Catholic 9th grade boys basketball, Greensburg Midget Football, WCCC boys basketball, along with many others. His passion for sports came from various sports he was involved in growing up. Jake lettered and played many sports, like football for Swissvale High School and for Tuskegee University, Alabama. Funeral Arrangements: Visitation will be held at Mason-Gelder, 201 N.First Street, Jeannette, PA. Thursday June 15th from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm, services will be held Friday June 16th at 11am with Rev Michael Thomas of Just Right Ministries officiating.
