Richard Highlands, Sr., 72, of Jeannette died Friday, November 10, 2017 in Excela Heath Westmoreland Hospital.  He was born March 14, 1945 in Greensburg, a son of the late John and Barbara McCready Highlands.  Prior to retirement he was a manager at Getto's Beer Distributor.  He was a US Navy veteran having served during the Vietnam War.  Rich was very involved in the Jeannette community.  He was a former coach and athletic trainer for numerous organizations including the Jeannette Midgets, Jeannette Baseball Association, Knee Hi Basketball, Jeannette Soccer Club and Sacred Heart Athletics.  He also volunteered for the Jeannette Ambulance and Jeannette Auxillary Police.  He loved to play pool and mentor players.  He was a member of American Legion Post #344 of Jeannette, BPOE of Jeannette and Harrison City Fire Department.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Schmidt Highlands, an infant brother, John and  brothers, Robert Highlands and his wife Barbara and Bill Highlands.  Rich loved his family and will be missed by his children, Marci Jo Laskey and her husband Edward and Richard, Jr. and his wife Laurie, all of Jeannette, three grandchildren, Darius, Justus and Josh, a brother, Milton Highlands and his wife Barbara of Ruffsdale and numerous nieces and nephews.  Friends will be received Tuesday from 2:00 pm until time of service at 7:00 pm in the MASON-GELDER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 201 N.
