Dena O'Brien Obituary

Dena “Noni” (Stevenson) O’Brien, 1954-2022.  The world became suddenly dimmer, on January 15, 2022, when we lost the spectacular, Dena “Noni” O’Brien, as she unexpected departed this life in her Latrobe home.  Dena, 67, originally from Jeannette, Pennsylvania, was the daughter of the late Robert and Dena (Distefanis) Stevenson, and was the beloved Wife of Bruce [Butch] O’Brien.  She was a treasured mother to her son, Casey O’Brien, to her daughter, Shannon [O’Brien] Hines, to her daughter-in-law, Wendy O’Brien, and son-in-law, Jason Hines.  She will most notably be remembered as the greatest grandmother of all time to her seven surviving grandchildren, Gavin O’Brien, Grant O’Brien, Bradly Hines, Beckett Hines, Grace     O’Brien, Boden Hines, and Baylor Hines.  She was unapologetically proud of these seven grandchildren for each of their individual accomplishments and is indeed responsible for the development of each of their individual personalities and character.  Noni appeared at every sporting event these children participated in.  She was a staple in the bleachers at the hockey games, baseball games, football fields, and wrestling matches, sporting her team gear, buttons, and cheering from the stands.  She became the adopted Noni to many of her grandchildren’s teammates and friends and leaves a huge hole in the crowd for all future games and matches.  Dena is predeceased by her brother, Robert Stevenson.  She was the adored aunt to countless nieces and nephews, a cherished sister by marriage to Pamela and Jay Naples and “soul” sister to her best friend, Valinda Svehla [Jerry].  Dena is also survived by several aunts and uncles, and numerous cousins. Dena was the heart of the New Stanton Primary Care Medical Office, where she worked for many years, being a valued friend to her patients, colleagues and co-workers.  To Dena, ‘family’ was not just by blood, she loved much deeper than that.  Her light and love will burn on in the hearts of all those who met her.  Please join family and friends to celebrate her extraordinary life at Mason-Gelder Funeral Home, 201 N. First St. Jeannette  Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.  The funeral mass for Noni will be held on Wednesday in Sacred Heart Church, Jeannette at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont.  To send online condolences visit www.mason-gelder.com.
