Obituary

Jay E. Clayton, 84, of Greensburg, died suddenly and peacefully Saturday, April 10, 2021 in his home. He was born in Greensburg on May 31, 1936, son of the late Edward and Mildred (Stepnick) Clayton. Prior to retirement, he was the Greensburg District Manager for American General Insurance Company. During his 33 year career at American General, he became the number one agent and then number one District Manager in the nation. He was a veteran of the United States Army and stationed in Aniston, AL during his service. There, he fell in love with The University of Alabama athletics and pinned his all-time favorite phrase, “Roll Tide.” He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Greensburg, a Board of Director for the Rehabilitation Center and Workshop, and a member of the American Legion Post 344 of Jeannette. Jay enjoyed attending, and rarely missed, his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and was an avid Jeannette Jayhawk, Alabama, Penn State and Steeler fan. He enjoyed tailgating in his motor home at the Steeler and Penn State football games. He and his brother, Ronald "Specs" Clayton, were the first brothers to win Westmoreland County Wrestling Championship titles in the same year. His infectious personality brought a smile to all who knew him, and because of that, all who knew him will never forget him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Judy Loughner, and two brothers, Ronald "Specs" and Donald Clayton. He is survived by his wife Carol (Panzino) Clayton, three children, Jay Bryant Clayton and his wife Amy of Irwin, Lynda Frazetta and her husband Sebastian of Plum and Brad Clayton and his wife Shyra of Franklin, nine beloved grandchildren: Taylor, Christopher, Katie, Nicholas, Anthony Jay, Matthew, Tyler, Zacary and Isaac, who inspired his motto "Grandchildren Make Life Grand," brothers-in-law, Kenneth Loughner and Peter Gallo, sisters-in-law, Patricia Clayton and Dorothy Gallo, a special cousin, George Clayton and numerous nieces and nephews.
