John R. Meadows

Mr John R Meadows passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 18, 2022. John was born on April 22, 1957, and was a life-long Jeannette guy, born and raised there.  He attended the Jeannette City school system and graduated from the senior high school in 1974.  He then received a degree in journalism from Penn State University in 1978.

John returned from college and held several jobs until he was employed by the Westmoreland County Board of Assistance.  Prior to his retirement,
John worked there for 20 plus years and was known as a compassionate and helpful worker to his clients.  John continued his interest in service to the area as a devoted and active member of the Jeannette Chapter Lion's Club.  In his youth, John was an avid photographer and has captured many Jeannette residents and places of interest in his black and white photos.  John enjoyed a good game of chess.  He traveled, visited relatives and socialized with friends and coworkers on a regular basis.

John was preceded in death by his parents Harry B Meadows Sr and Lavinia Meadows, his paternal grandmother Leona Chadwick and his beloved younger brother Michael A Meadows.  He is survived by sisters Laura A Meadows of Pittsburgh; Leona Walker of Harper's Woods, Michigan; Mary Fearbry of Pittsburgh; Susan Meadows of Summerville, South Carolina;  Lavinia Meadows of Summerville, South Carolina; and Edna L Meadows of Pittsburgh.  Surviving brothers are Harry B Meadows Jr of Hempfield Township; William Archie Meadows of Jeannette and Russell (Diane) Meadows.  John also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  A memorial service will be held at the Mason-Gelder Funeral Home 201 N. First St. Jeannette on Saturday June 4th at 11:00 AM.  A picnic will be held from 2:00 PM till 6:30 PM at Altman Park 180 Altman Road Jeannette, PA
