The family of Mariann Grace Mattes (Spantak) announces with great sorrow her passing on April 30, 2021 after a long and courageous battle with Leukemia and heart issues. She is survived by her devoted husband of 46 years Robert (Robin) Mattes and her 3 sons and their families; Allen and Robin with Allyssa and Chloe of Greensburg, Michael and Amy with Garrett and Makayla of Jeannette, and Patrick with Kieran and Karlie of Glendale, AZ. Her greatest treasures were her 6 grandchildren, known as Mimi her life revolved around her babies and bringing them joy and happiness. Formerly from Franklin Borough she was born July 11, 1955 to the late John and Patricia (Taylor) Spantak. She is also survived by her brother John and his kids Jenn and Jason. Mariann graduated from Conemaugh Valley High School and then graduated from Mount Aloysius with a RN nursing degree. She graduated in the top of her class at both schools. After graduation she started her nursing career in Johnstown at Lee Hospital in Critical Care and Med Surgery. When the family moved to Greensburg, Mariann continued her career at Westmoreland Hospital as an IV nurse for 25 years. Mariann had a love and talent for art. She excelled at many mediums including painting, ceramics, stained glass and even cake decorating. Her art work decorates the houses of family and friends. Mariann was blessed with many loving friends who filled her days with joy and laughter including her good friends Connie and Marty Kuhar, Irene and Mark Hanna, Carol and Ray Walters and Marissa Smith. She always looked forward to her weekly outings including ceramics with Connie and Jack, adventures with the Friday friends, and the endless laughs with "The YaYa's"-Linda, Barb,Leslie and Larry. The endless love, compassion and prayers from her friends comforted her through her illness. The medical staff that helped Mariann became friends. Thank you to the staff at Hillman Cancer Center, Dr. Auga, Sara, Trish, Katie and James for their kindness and care during her illness, Dr. Leibu and Vicky your years of service to Mariann during her illness gave us extra time with her. Arrangements are entrusted to Mason-Gelder Funeral Home Inc. Jeannette, PA however, at her request there will be no viewing. Mariann, I want to thank you for making me who I am, my Success was all your doing. You pushed me to be a better person, thank you Mariann...I Love You...Rob.
