Melva J. (Pochatko) DiMatteo

Melva Jean DiMatteo peacefully went home to Heaven on May 7, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and close friends. Melva was first married to Daniel Lakin, who preceded her in death in 1985. After his passing, she devoted many years to lovingly raising her children on her own with strength, determination, and compassion. Later in life, she found true love and companionship with her soulmate, Ralph DiMatteo. The two met while working together in the bakery department at the old Shop ’n Save in Greensburg. Their friendship quickly grew into a lasting bond, and after many happy years together, they were married and shared 16 wonderful years of marriage. She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin Potchatko and Jean Potchatko of Bovard; her former husband, Daniel Lakin; and her sons, Paul Wallbaum and Kevin Wallbaum. Melva is survived by her loving husband, Ralph DiMatteo; her son, Zane Lakin and his wife, Kristin of Somerset; and her daughter, Pamela Wallbaum of Hannastown. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Alex (Luke) Lakin; Zane Lakin; Steven Lakin; Tyler Lakin; Amber Lakin; William (Ashley)Gaffey and Nirvana Gaffey. Melva was also blessed with two beloved great-granddaughters, Aiyana Mauro and Scarlette Gaffey, along with many family members and friends who will deeply miss her. Viewing and Service will be held at 1pm Friday, May 15th at the Third United Church of Christ 1526 Elm St Greensburg Pa with Pastor Robert Garris officiating. Interment will be private.
