Obituary

With hearts heavy with grief but overflowing with love, we share the passing of Vincent Scott Simmers Sr.  Vince went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 24th; his last moments were peaceful, surrounded in person and in spirit by his loving family.

Vince is preceded in death by his infant son, Preston Simmers; his mother, LaRue Caldwell Simmers; his father, William Earl Simmers Jr; and his brother, William James Simmers.

Vince is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Rosemary (Stemple) Simmers; by his children: Vincent Scott Simmers Jr (Jennifer [Pershing]), Melinda Joyce Houser (Don), Allison Dawn Gazze (Shannon), Mary Elizabeth Hommel (Christian), Valerie Eiler Martin, and Cherith Marie Wissmann (James); and by three sisters: Cindy Simone (Nick), Linda Smith (Don), and Amy Petro.

Born on January 23th, 1948, Vince lived a full, honorable, faithful life.  He married his high school sweetheart Rosemary on April 12th, 1967.  Vince proudly served his country in the United States Army Security Agency from 1967-1971, including a tour in Viet Nam with the Blackhorse 11th Armored Cavalry Division from 1969-1970.  Vince's career at The Elliot Company began on September 20th, 1965, and spanned 45 years to his retirement in 2010.  In 2011 Vince became active in the Pittsburgh Pirates Bradenton Booster Volunteer Association and held the position of vice-president of the organization.  In retirement, Vince also enjoyed regular golf outings, traveling the country, and especially trips to he and Rosemary's seasonal home in the Sugar Creek retirement community in Bradenton, FL.

Above all Vince, known by this very special group as "Ahda", treasured and cherished time spent with each of his 15 grandchildren: Sabrina Simmers, Jackson Houser, Matthew Choi, Sehri Choi, Sloan Houser, Emily Karelitz, Ahna Choi, Jacob Karelitz, Walter Simmers, Deacon Simmers, Evelyn Hommel, Willow Martin, Adrien Hommel, William Wissmann, and Brooke Wissmann.

Vince, as husband, father, "Ahda", brother, and friend, will be missed tremendously, but tenderly carried forward in our memories forever.
