Welcome to the memorial page for

Joyce M. Grundy

January 2, 1927 ~ April 29, 2016 (age 89) 89 Years Old
Joyce (Kenney) Grundy, formerly of Jeannette, passed away Saturday morning in South Bend, Indiana after a brief illness. Joyce was born January 2, 1927 in Houston, Texas to Clyde and Mary Kathryn Kenney, both of whom preceded her in death. She was raised in Greensburg and in 1952 married William (Bill) Grundy, who died in 2007. Bill and Joyce had two children, Bill Jr. (wife Mary Kay) of South Bend and Judy Grundy who resides in Alexandria, Virginia. Joyce is also survived by her three grandchildren, Erin of Las Vegas, NV, Robbie of South Bend and Alana of Alexandria. Through her life Joyce derived great pleasure and had wonderful memories from her many friendships, including those from the bowling league of which she was a member for 56 years, her several bridge clubs, her associates from Mountain View Interiors where she worked for many years, and the tremendous friends and neighbors of the Paruco Park neighborhood in Jeannette. After moving to South Bend in 2012, Joyce remained an avid reader, frequenting the local library as she had done in Jeannette, and she always looked forward to the occasional trip to the casino. She also continued her life-long interest in Pittsburgh sports teams, particularly her beloved Steelers, but she was enthusiastically following the progress of the Pirates and Penguins during her final days. A life-long animal lover, Joyce would recall stories of the various pets she had since childhood, but she most fondly cherished the companionship from her three dogs, Pumpkin, Otis, and Mollie. Most of all, she was a loving and devoted wife, caring for Bill as his health declined in later years, a dedicated and proud mother, adoring grandmother, and committed friend. Friends will be received Wednesday from 6:00 - 8:00 pm in the MASON-GELDER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 201 N. First St. Jeannette. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11:00 am in the funeral home with Rev. Clint Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in Jeannette Memorial Park, Penn Township. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes to encourage memorial donations be made to the Jeannette Public Library, 500 Magee Ave., Jeannette, PA, 15644 or the First United Methodist Church, 100 South 2nd Street, Jeannette, PA, 15644. May you rest in peace mom. We will miss you terribly. To send on-line condolences, visit www.mason-gelder.com.
