Richard A. Nickle, 78, of Adamsburg died Thursday, March 17, 2016 at home. He was born August 11, 1937, in Edna #1 near Adamsburg, a son of the late Joseph and Cecelia Blavis Nickle. Richard's love of life was God, family, Marines, and friends. He now resides with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Rick took the opportunity to witness and tell of God's love to many. He was very proud of his polish/jewish heritage. Every day began with prayer and bible meditation. He served six years in the Marine Corp from 1956-1962 at Paris Island and Camp LeJuene, NC. He was part of the 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine, 2nd Division. He served aboard the USS Kennedy and the USS Rockbridge with Marine maneuvers in Puerto Rico. He was a member of Community United Methodist Church, Harrison City. He had the honor of being an usher, greeter, and serving communion. Rich had been in food services since 1962. He started at Sandson's Grocery in Irwin and Jeannette. He managed the Star Market in Sarasota, FL. He also worked for Thorofare, Kroger's meat plant in Irwin, Naser's Groceries in Apollo, and in 2000 retired from Giant Eagle. After retirement, he enjoyed working for Frank's Auto Supply in Geensburg. Rich held offices in the Marine Detachment 834 of Greensburg. He proudly served as Commandant, Past Commandant, Sr. Vice and organized all area parades. For several years, he was dedicated to the TOYS FOR TOTS Campaign for Westmoreland County, and helped with the Marine Birthday Ball every November. Rich was a member of the DEVIL DOGS OF PA PACK 275 where he held positions of secretary and treasurer. Rich enjoyed the friendship of the Car Cruisers Bowling League. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph, a sister, Victoria Ketter and a daughter-in-law, Amy Nickle. He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Edna Mae "Sunny" Soles Bernhardy Cook Nickle of Adamsburg, four children, Tim Nickle and his wife Marianne of Palm Harbor, FL, Terri Yee and her husband Michael of Pittsburgh, Rick Nickle and his wife Donna of SC, and Paul Nickle of Trafford. He is also survived by four step-children, George Bernhardy and his wife Brenda of Penn, Sher Churchfield of Adamsburg, Arlene Kasenic and husband Jim of Pittsburgh, Karolyn Seice and her husband Michael of Claridge, 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, a sister, Dolores Mori and her husband Wayne of Irwin, sister-in-law, Becky Nickle of Wegley, and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Tuesday from 2:00 - 4:00 pm and 6:00 - 8:00 pm in the MASON-GELDER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 201 N. First St., Jeannette. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10:00 am in the Community United Methodist Church, 3487 Rte. 130, Irwin, PA. EVERYONE PLEASE GO DIRECTLY TO THE CHURCH. Interment with military rites accorded by VFW Post #33 of Greensburg will follow in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Rich may be made to Community United Methodist Church, or Toys for Tots, 1715 Franklin St., Greensburg, PA 15601. The Marine Corps.
